If you follow my Twitter account you probably seen my multiple #musicmonday tweets. Music is the fire that gets me going on my workouts and if i'm at a solemn mood its what tugs at my heart. Music also marks moments in time. When I came back from serving in Iraq Spring 2009, I went and visited family in Europe. Lady Gaga's The Fame fit so well as I walked the streets of Paris. It was a soundtrack to my adventure. In the same way Britney's Circus, helped me through many a workouts by pushing the weight for that last set. So here is my Single's list that helped move me though 2009

Grammies 2009
The Grammy nominees were announced this week. The nominees didn't really surprise me: Beyonce with 10, Taylor Swift with 8, Lady Gaga, Black Eye Peas and Kings Of Leon. Choices like French band Phoenix, The Brits own The Ting Tings and New England band MGMT made me giddy. I was disappointed Lily Allen's "It's Not Me, It's You", Mariah or La Roux wasn't voted for... Hall and Oats? WTF Really?!!

A Few Reasons Why Adam Lambert's Performance on the Amercian Music Awards Didn't Work
Oh Adam Lambert. In the Age of Speidi & TMZ.com, any publicity is good publicity. His bondage themed performance on the 2009 AMA's brought 1500 complaints to ABC . Adam's rebuttal on his performance was "it was in the moment" from the simulated fellatio to crotch grabbing to kissing his keyboard player. Needless to say, Judy Garland is turning over in her grave.
The Chicago Tribune quotes Adam: "People are scared, and it's really sad. I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things. It's all for a laugh -- it's really not that big of a deal."
Adam is also quoted as saying sexual expression is a double standard, look at when Britney & Madonna kissed on the VMA's. Why can't a male push the envelope? That is where Adam is mistaken.
-First, Britney Spears began her career as a Mouseketeer. For her first album/video, she performed in the infamous school girl outfit which was naughty not vulgar presenting herself as innocent. As she progressed in her career she pushed the envelope from the Rolling Stone cover to skin tight PVC body suit in "Oops I Did It Again" to the sensual "Slave 4 You". So when she kissed Madonna, it was a shock that worked albeit predictable.
-Next, the notorious kiss was on cable (MTV) and Adam's performance was on Network Television. (Remember Janet Jackson's nipple slip).
-Third, shock does not make a crappy song better. Britney's "Hit Me Baby" lyrics, sound and styling were infectious.
-Lastly, the song and dance number was over produced much like JLo's Louboutin performance and it came off as if he was vying for the title of Sir Gaga. Was it me or did seem like most of the musical acts had backup dancers?
Like I said in the beginning any PR is PR. I just think he needs to hone his ENTERTAINMENT skills and pay his dues before he tries pushing the boundaries.
Bonus: I think Miley Cyrus' stripper pole from the 09 Kids Choice Awards was reused in the Adam Lambert set.

What I Like about Lady Gaga- Bad Romance
LAday Gaga's latest artistic masterpiece is most likely going to be played in video bars of Europe to douchebag clubs of the Jersey Shores. Lady Gaga's world collides slick advertising & performance art. From the intro with the iPod enabled Parrot By Phillippe Starck to Alexander McQueen ensembles most notable the shoes, Nemiroff Lex Vodka (Ukranian), Benjamin Cho Polar Bear Dress to Carrerra Sunglasses. I can't discern the lingerie, the latex dresses, PVC bodysuit or diamond encrusted head piece brand. She pays homage to Thierry Mugglier with the Saturn Ring suit she notoriously wore on SNL but all these objects are just accessories to the force that is Lady Gaga. I did find something unsettling about the video. The video is obviously digitally enhanced much like the movie 300. Obviously her eyes were enlarged in the tub scene but what caught my attention was her waist which was ridiculously skinny in the shower scene. Does this purvey Fashion's obssession anorexic/bulimic models? Overall the video is her collaboration with Francis Lawrence of a doe eyed girl molded into a prostitute for the Russian Mafia to push her pop art perspective morphing into the Monster that is her unique point of view.

What I Like About The Beach...
Memorial Day weekend at the beach. Fun, sun, sand, ocean, & hot bodies. The cool breeze blowing while the sun glazes your body with warmth. Memorial Day is the start of summer. As I look out in to the Atlantic, I'm reminded of the Marines and other service members that can't enjoy this. Iraq, Afghanistan, deployed on a ship, etc... As you spend your holiday where ever you are at home, the park or beach. Remember the sacrifices that the men and women of the present and past have give their lives for the great country of ours and I'm thankful for the freedom to lay on the beach! Semper Fidelis.
